Specialist pathways for adults
We work with people with life changing neurological injuries and illnesses.
We find that many of the people that we work with have been told by other services that they can’t do any more for them or that their needs have challenged traditional models of rehabilitation and care.
Despite having the odds stacked against rehabilitation, by taking a client centred approach and working alongside care managers, legal teams, statutory service providers and residential rehabilitation partners who share our values, we see real life-changing outcomes time and time again.
Although each person we work with has unique rehabilitation needs, they all have one thing in common; they have recognised potential to change to improve their quality of life. Where others view cognitive impairment, behavioural problems or time since injury as limitations, we understand that this is real life. People change over time and issues that were addressed during the early phases of rehabilitation, are exchanged for different issues as the person adjusts to living with a complex neurological condition.
As well as working with people with acquired brain or spinal cord injury, our team has extensive knowledge of working with people with complex progressive diseases, aiming to maintain quality of life in the face of disease transitions. Alongside hands on therapy skills we have expertise in client centred interventions, including self-management and carer enablement via bespoke education and training sessions.
We have particular expertise in working with people who have ‘Locked-in Syndrome’ and have growing skills across our team to support rehabilitation for people with prolonged disorders of conciseness.
Of late we have seen a developing evidence base that supports the value of neurorehabilitation for people with functional problems. People with functional problems often feel very frustrated that their needs are not validated or that they can’t get in front of a team who have expertise in meeting their complex needs. At Neural Pathways we have an experienced team who are enthusiastic about working alongside people with functional problems, towards realistic sustainable gains and the prevention of relapse once the therapy programme is complete.
